How Trova works
Trova is a data site, not a review blog. Every number comes from a published source we can point to, and every match is computed the same way for every brand.
Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
Where our data comes from
We build each record from facts that brands and retailers already publish:
- Brand spec pages. Stack height, drop, weight and category as the manufacturer states them.
- Retailer product pages. Used to fill gaps or cross-check a brand figure.
- Affiliate product feeds. Licensed feeds from retailers and affiliate networks, used for prices, stock and sizes.
- Press releases. Used for release dates and to link a new version to the model it replaces.
Facts such as "8 mm drop" are not owned by anyone, but test databases are. We do not copy other sites' lab measurements, test results or images.
Every field has a source
Each spec in our database is stored with:
- the source: the page it came from, who published it (for example "Brooks (official)" or a named retailer), what kind of source it is and the date we retrieved it;
- the basis where it matters. Weight, for example, is always recorded with the reference size (such as men's US 9), because brands weigh different sizes.
A record is marked verified only when every spec shown on the page is backed by a source and has passed a check. Pages that show unverified records are hidden from search engines until they are verified. If a value is missing we show it as missing; we never estimate a spec and present it as published. Matches carry their own confidence: a match worked out from fewer published specs scores lower and never outranks a fully specified one.
Prices
Prices, stock and sizes come from retailer and affiliate network feeds, refreshed about [REFRESH FREQUENCY, e.g. once a day]. Each price is shown with the retailer's name and when we last fetched it. Retailers can change prices at any time, so the price at checkout is the one that counts.
How matches are scored
When you ask for shoes like one you loved, we compare its published specs with every current model and rank them by spec similarity. The inputs are:
| Input | What we compare |
|---|---|
| Stack height | Heel stack, in mm |
| Drop | Heel-to-toe drop, in mm |
| Weight | Published weight at a stated reference size, in g |
| Category | Daily, max cushion, tempo, race, trail or recovery |
| Support | Neutral or stability |
Each difference is scaled so that, for example, a few millimetres of drop counts for about as much as a few tens of grams of weight. A different category or support type counts as a large difference. The result is shown as a match percentage. Where a spec is missing, the shoe is penalised rather than given the benefit of the doubt.
Where a model has a newer version in the same line, we show that separately as the direct successor, with the changes between versions (for example +2 mm stack −8 g).
Fit feedback from runners may be added to scoring later. If it is, we will say so here, show how much weight it carries, and only use it once there is enough of it to be meaningful.
How we make money
When you buy through a link to a retailer, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra and it never changes the order of results. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
What we don't do
- No lab testing claims. We do not cut shoes in half or run them for 50 miles, and we will not say we did. Our comparisons are spec-based, and we say so.
- No fake reviews. No invented reviewers, personas, star ratings or quotes.
- No sponsored rankings. If we ever show a paid placement, it will be clearly labelled as an ad and kept apart from match results.
- No copied test data. We do not reuse other publishers' lab measurements or images outside their licence.
- No made-up numbers. Short summaries on our pages are written only from facts in our database. Any number on the page must match the database before it is published.
Expert reviewer
Their role will be to review this methodology and our hub pages, and to flag anything that is misleading for runners. They will be paid for their time, not per sale.
Corrections
If you spot a wrong spec, a broken link, a version linked to the wrong predecessor or anything else that looks off, tell us. We will:
- check it against the original source within [N] working days;
- fix the record and every page that uses it;
- note material corrections on the affected page with the date.
If a brand changes a published spec, we update the record and keep the date of the change.
